The first thing a lot of new Scion xB owners found out was that the OEM headlights can appear very bright to on coming traffic. Some were even ticketed for it, and when returning to the dealership to get them re adjusted was told that they were "operating normally." This left a few Scion owners to adjust the lights themselves, only to find that any amount of adjustment ruined your night driving lighting. Often times losing the depth of light the xB provided from the factory. Some have just chosen to continue to get flashed at and drive on.

  • When searching for after market replacement lights there are a lot of options, in a lot of finishes to choose from.
  • The most popular design was that of the Sonar Scion projector headlights.
  • These have built in halos, and come in chrome or black.
  • This combines to create a custom look that is both functional and visually appealing.

There are a lot of more expensive styles and types available, as well as a few eBay knock offs that run much cheaper. One thing all aftermarket lights have in common is fogging issues. These are easily overcome, and a few home remedies have sprung up to relieve this issue. One option, though time consuming, was to open up and reseal the headlight units. Another is to drill some hidden, tiny, drain holes in the housing. This is the route I chose, and though there is some fogging directly after a good storm, they generally dry out within an hour or two after.

The other option is to customize your Scion xB OEM headlights. Some have "cleared the corners," which means they accessed the headlight inner assembly via one of the light socket holes, and simply poke out the amber reflectors. This in itself creates a dramatic change in appearance that a lot of people have fallen in love with. Others have taken it a step further, and opened up the OEM head lights completely, and added accent paint to the inner reflective surface, to create a complete custom look that is one of a kind.

Lastly, head light overlays are the most inexpensive option, but arguably the best bang for the buck. These also create a complete custom look. These can be a complete overlay, or custom cut to accent the housing, and create an aggressive headlight stance. In the end, the choice will also depend on individual style and budget.
